Privacy Policy

Pict-o-view is designed to keep your photos and videos entirely on your Mac. It does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information, and it contains no advertising, analytics, or tracking of any kind.

Information we collect

None. Pict-o-view has no accounts, no sign-in, and no servers. We do not gather usage statistics, device identifiers, crash telemetry, or any other data about you or your use of the app.

Your files

Pict-o-view only accesses folders you explicitly add or open. Access is granted by you through the standard macOS file picker or drag-and-drop, and is stored on your Mac as an Apple security-scoped bookmark so your chosen folders remain available across restarts. Your photos and videos never leave your device through Pict-o-view. We cannot see them, and neither can anyone else.

iCloud files

If you open a photo or video stored in iCloud Drive that hasn't been downloaded yet, Pict-o-view asks macOS to download it so it can be displayed. This transfer is handled entirely by Apple's iCloud service between your Mac and your iCloud account. Pict-o-view does not transmit your files to us or to any third party.

Sharing, copying, and editing

When you use the Share menu (AirDrop, Messages, Mail, and so on), your file goes directly from your Mac to the destination you choose, handled by macOS — Pict-o-view never uploads it anywhere. Copy and paste use the standard macOS clipboard on your device. Rotate and crop edits are non-destructive: they never modify your original file and are stored only as small local records in the app's container.

Local storage

To make browsing fast, Pict-o-view stores small thumbnail previews, your non-destructive edits, and app preferences (such as your last-viewed folder, if that setting is on) in its sandboxed container on your Mac (under ~/Library/Containers/). This data stays on your device and can be removed at any time by deleting the app.

Third-party services

Pict-o-view uses no third-party SDKs, advertising networks, or analytics services. The FFmpeg libraries it bundles for MKV playback run entirely on your Mac and make no network connections; see Open source for the licensing details.

Children's privacy

Pict-o-view does not collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new “Last updated” date.
